The summer months can be a challenging time on the food budget for families with school-age children. For families looking for a way to receive additional food to bridge the summer gap, the ACBC Summer Food for Kids program is available June 11 through August.
During their regular food shelf market shop, families can choose additional kid-friendly items to bridge the gap during the summer months.
How it Works
During a regular shopping appointment in the Food Shelf Market, a special shelf is designated with kid-friendly items. Families with school-age children can choose extra items from the shelf, based on their family size, along with an extra half gallon of milk.
The Summer Food for Kids program is available once a month during the regular shopping period.
Families are encouraged to visit the bi-monthly produce distributions for additional healthy fruit and vegetable options as well.
How to Help
Food and financial donations are key for the Summer Food for Kids program to continue each year.
- Financial donations are accepted online, in-person, or via mail. A donation of $20 can help provide food for one household each summer!
- Kid-friendly food donations such as cereal, macaroni and cheese cups, individual snacks (with labeled ingredients) and other items are accepted. Food donations can be dropped off at ACBC 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
