Many households continue to face economic hardship and come to ACBC Food Shelf to help meet their food needs – and stretch their budget a little further.
With children home from school for the summer, the need is greater than ever.
ACBC is encouraging community members to come together once again for the annual Open Your Heart Summer Challenge fundraiser in July.
Throughout the month, any financial donations made to ACBC Food Shelf will provide the organization with a matched proportional grant up to $4,000.
The Summer Challenge provided through the partnership of Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless gives food shelves additional resources to help people struggling with hunger.
“This funding helps raise awareness of hunger and helps food shelves raise additional funding during slower summer months when donations are down to continue meeting the needs of their local communities,” according to the Open Your Heart website.
Donations are accepted online, via mail or in-person.

“We appreciate the generosity of our community during this month-long fundraiser,” ACBC Executive Director Stephanie Lehman said. “For every dollar donated, we’re able to purchase $9.33 from local food banks – provides much needed food such as fresh produce, dairy, meat, nonperishable items, and more. Together, you are helping build a stronger community.”
