Position: Retail Rescue Driver

Position Overview:

  • Part time, 25 hours per week.
  • Position hours: Monday 7:30 – 3 pm, Tuesday 10 – 3 pm; Wednesday 7:30 – 1pm, Thursday 7:30 – 1pm; Friday 7:30 – 10 am
  • Additional hours may be required based on the needs of ACBC
  • Review provided after 90 calendar day probation period.

Desired Start Date: ASAP

Salary & Benefits: $15 per hour; paid holidays; Personal Time Off – 25 hours (during the first 12 months of employment).

Reports to: Manager (Breanne Nelson)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Pick up regularly scheduled donated items from retail partners, as well as occasional food drive collections and bring them to ACBC warehouse.
  • Ensure proper food safety measures are taken in the transport and storage of perishable donated food by using thermometers, freezer blankets, and coolers as recommended by Second Harvest Heartland Partnership Agreements and industry best practices.
  • Maintain records of temperatures of donated meat and dairy items upon receipt at retail donation site and again upon delivery to ACBC warehouse.
  • Establish and build relationships with retail donation partners by serving as the face of ACBC.
  • Weigh donations by retail donor and category and record weights for reporting purposes.
  • Manage incoming donations (checks, cash, or goods) by answering warehouse doors, weighing donated items, sorting, checking dates, and providing receipts.
  • Provide information on the operation of ACBC as well as short tours, as needed
  • Assist in food shelf distributions by stocking the store freezer, cooler, and shelves.
  • Oversee volunteers assisting with food rescue
  • Ensure cleanliness, safety, and organization of the warehouse facility and store, including sweeping, crushing cardboard, cleaning spills, etc.
  • Maintain exterior grounds including parking lot by occasional shoveling and applying salt to walkways.
  • Other general support duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid driver’s license with no accidents in the past 36 months. Must be able to maintain insurance coverage as approved driver for ACBC Food Shelf.
  • Prior food shelf or grocery store experience preferred.

  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; frequent walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 80 pounds, or willingness to repack donations.
  • The potential for prolonged standing, walking, squatting, and/or bending.
  • Frequent use of an electric pallet jack or manual pallet jack (loads of 100+ pounds, up to 1,000 pounds. Frequent use of carts with loads of 100+ pounds.
  • Ability to enter the cold case, cooler, and freezer thereby being subjected to cold temperatures for extended periods of time.
  • Work environment of varying temperatures (retail/warehouse/office environments) and frequent exposure to outdoor elements during retail pick-ups. Frequent work in warehouse with shelves and storage equipment.
  • Use of industrial cleaners, ladders, and pallet jacks.
